Northern Maritime Museum in Groningen

The Noordelijk Scheepvaartmuseum is a museum in the city of Groningen. It mainly focuses on the history of shipbuilding and shipping in the province of Groningen. Throughout the year, various history and art exhibitions can be seen. In cooperation with the House of Groninger Culture an animated film has been developed that shows Groningen in 1470. The museum is now housed in two fourteenth-century buildings in the Brugstraat. The Noordelijk Scheepvaartmuseum owns a museum ship: the EMMA (PW17). This management vessel was built in 1922 at Groninger shipyard Gideon on behalf of the Provincial Public Works. After her loyal service the ship was sold in 2010, after which the Noordelijk Scheepvaartmuseum became the new, proud owner. Since 7 April 2011, Emma has been serving as a promotion and presentation vessel for events at the museum.
