The Groninger Museum is a museum in the city of Groningen and one of the top attractions of the province with a visitor number of approximately 200,000 visitors per year. The collection of the Groninger Museum consists of more than 80,000 objects. The design of the Groninger Museum looks like an elongated island. It consists of three large volumes in the water and is connected by corridors and two squares. The whole had to be stretched out for a long time and consisted of small parts of the building. Because of that architecture, the transparency for the inhabitants of the single stayed there. The design for the new building had as an important premise that it had to fit in with the atmosphere of the collections of the Groninger Museum. These are four diverse collections - archeology and history of Groningen, applied art, old visual arts and contemporary visual art.
